CVE-2017-15951

Status Candidate

Overview

The KEYS subsystem in the Linux kernel before 4.13.10 does not correctly synchronize the actions of updating versus finding a key in the "negative" state to avoid a race condition, which allows local users to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via crafted system calls.

Ubuntu Security Notice 3507-2 - Mohamed Ghannam discovered that a use-after-free vulnerability existed in the Netlink subsystem in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. It was discovered that the Linux kernel did not properly handle copy-on- write of transparent huge pages. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly gain administrative privileges. Various other issues were also addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice 3485-3 - It was discovered that a race condition existed in the ALSA subsystem of the Linux kernel when creating and deleting a port via ioctl. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. Eric Biggers discovered that the key management subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly restrict adding a key that already exists but is uninstantiated. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. Various other issues were also addressed.
