CVE-2017-16538

Status Candidate

Overview

drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb-v2/lmedm04.c in the Linux kernel through 4.13.11 allows local users to cause a denial of service (general protection fault and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device, related to a missing warm-start check and incorrect attach timing (dm04_lme2510_frontend_attach versus dm04_lme2510_tuner).

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-3754-1
Posted Aug 27, 2018
Authored by Ubuntu | Site security.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu Security Notice 3754-1 - Ralf Spenneberg discovered that the ext4 implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly validate meta block groups. An attacker with physical access could use this to specially craft an ext4 image that causes a denial of service. It was discovered that an information disclosure vulnerability existed in the ACPI implementation of the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information. Various other issues were also addressed.

Ubuntu Security Notice 3631-1 - It was discovered that a buffer overread vulnerability existed in the keyring subsystem of the Linux kernel. A local attacker could possibly use this to expose sensitive information. It was discovered that the DM04/QQBOX USB driver in the Linux kernel did not properly handle device attachment and warm-start. A physically proximate attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. Various other issues were also addressed.
