GNU Privacy Guard 2.4.7
Posted Nov 25, 2024
Site gnupg.org

GnuPG (the GNU Privacy Guard or GPG) is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440. As such, it is meant to be compatible with PGP from NAI, Inc. Because it does not use any patented algorithms, it can be used without any restrictions.

Changes: gpg changes include allowing the use of an ADSK subkey as ADSK subkey, avoiding a failure exit code for expired ultimately trusted keys, fixing a comparison of ed448 to ed25519 with --assert-pubkey-algo, and retaining binary representation for import->export with Ed25519 key signatures. Improvements or fixes also added for gpgsm, scd, gpgtar, gpg-mail-tube, gpgconf, and a build issue on macOS.

OpenSSH 9.9p1
Posted Sep 20, 2024
Authored by Damien Miller | Site openssh.com

This is a Linux/portable port of OpenBSD's excellent OpenSSH. OpenSSH is based on the last free version of Tatu Ylonen's SSH with all patent-encumbered algorithms removed, all known security bugs fixed, new features reintroduced, and many other clean-ups.

Changes: ssh has removed support for pre-authentication compression. ssh and sshd changed processing of the arguments to the "Match" configuration directive to follow more shell-like rules for quoted strings.

Stegano 0.11.4
Posted Sep 9, 2024
Authored by Cedric Bonhomme | Site github.com

Stegano is a basic Python Steganography module. Stegano implements two methods of hiding: using the red portion of a pixel to hide ASCII messages, and using the Least Significant Bit (LSB) technique. It is possible to use a more advanced LSB method based on integers sets. The sets (Sieve of Eratosthenes, Fermat, Carmichael numbers, etc.) are used to select the pixels used to hide the information.

Changes: Added a parameter, close_file, to lsb.reveal in order to specify if the file must be closed at the end of the processing.

RansomLord Anti-Ransomware Exploit Tool 3.1
Posted May 31, 2024
Authored by hyp3rlinx, malvuln | Site malvuln.com

RansomLord is a proof-of-concept tool that automates the creation of PE files, used to compromise ransomware pre-encryption. This tool uses dll hijacking to defeat ransomware by placing PE files in the x32 or x64 directories where the program is run from.

Changes: Stability enhancements. Updated some export functions for the x32 exploit DLL. Added -r flag to output a Sigma rule for detecting RansomLord activity using Windows event log.

RansomLord generated PE files are saved in x32 and x64 directories and need to be placed in directories where programs execute. The goal of the project is to exploit vulnerabilities inherent in certain strains of ransomware by deploying exploits that defend the network! The DLLs may also provide additional coverage against generic and info stealer malwares.

Changes: This version now intercepts and terminates malware tested from 49 different threat groups. Added StopCrypt, RisePro, RuRansom, MoneyMessage, CryptoFortress and Onyx. Windows event IOC log now includes the SHA256 hash plus full path of the intercepted malware.

The KeyTrap Denial-of-Service Algorithmic Complexity Attacks On DNS
Posted Feb 22, 2024
Authored by Niklas Vogel, Haya Schulmann, Michael Waidner, Elias Heftrig | Site athene-center.de

In this paper, the authors show that the design of DNSSEC is flawed. Exploiting vulnerable recommendations in the DNSSEC standards, they developed a new class of DNSSEC-based algorithmic complexity attacks on DNS, they dubbed KeyTrap attacks. All popular DNS implementations and services are vulnerable. With just a single DNS packet, the KeyTrap attacks lead to a 2.000.000x spike in CPU instruction count in vulnerable DNS resolvers, stalling some for as long as 16 hours. This devastating effect prompted major DNS vendors to refer to KeyTrap as "the worst attack on DNS ever discovered". Exploiting KeyTrap, an attacker could effectively disable Internet access in any system utilizing a DNSSEC-validating resolver.
